Arunan sir came to visit our college today. We organised a cube meet at st Peter’s college kolenchery tomorrow so sir came today and helped us make a clear idea about tomorrow’s plans. It also encouraged new Cubists to work eagerly. Some of the new Cubists had some fear about all the cube stuffs but today’s sir’s interaction made them realise that there is nothing there to feel afraid to post in cube and be a regular member of cube groups.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s meet
We had 4 different model organisms at CUBE Kolenchery.
- Fruitfly
- Earthworm
- Hydra
- Moina
We were originally reluctant to add Phyllanthus as we were all zoology students.
@Arunan sir explained to us how the model organism Phyllanthus, despite being a plant, showed the sleep-wake cycle or the circadian rhythm just like animals!!! So now we have a total of 5 model organisms.
Can’t wait for the session tomorrow
@Abhishek what is the update of each cube group at cube Kolanchery?
Please encourage each group to post their work report here, by creating a separate thread for each model organism/research question
@Akshitha please report what is current status of each model organism currently.
Why not create a separate thread of discussion for each model system and research question ?
Eagerly waiting…
- Fruitfly
Successfully being cultured in ketchup bottles by @Abhishek and others - Earthworm
Currently 8 Eisenia fetida in vermipit and 8 Eudrilus euginae in cup culture. We’ll soon make a vermipit for the Eudrilus euginiae as well. - Hydra
Successfully being cultured in a small aquarium. We’ll be preparing a seperate aquarium as well for the hydra so that they can overcome any depression phase. - Moina
Moina macrocopa successfully being cultured in a plastic container using yeast.
@Akshitha That’s great!!
What protocol did you follow for culturing moinas in yeast?
Did they grow well?
Please put forward your design of the experiment, number of cultures you created, your expectations, the initial Moina count, etc. along with pictures of the cultures.
How did you identify that it is Moina macrocopa only and not any other species?
How many species of moinas have been discovered?
What are the characteristic features which you have observed and which define that this is a Moina only?
Keep us updated!!
Why no photos and updates, with plan of work happening daily? @Akshitha
Please inform all the members of these groups to create a separate thread of discussion on each model system, with their research question of investigation.
Please inform each group of CUBE Kolenchery to keep us updated with their work progress by writing regular plans of work…
