How many DNA threads are there in total in a diploid human cell??

Why such question ? Give context or a story behind!

So, Today at ANDC cube meet we were having discussions and causerie on the model system Drosophila, where came the light on the chromosomal theory of inheritance by Morgan, the scientist who worked on Drosophila and there was the question - what is a chromosome, its structure and what it is made up of?
Then during theses discussions there was a confusion among members-whether all the chromosomes in a cell is composed of a single DNA that breaks during cell division to form numerous chromosomes or each chromosome is composed of single DNA thread so multiple DNA threads are there in a cell nucleus???
